Audi of America is recalling certain 2018 to 2020 Audi Q5 and 2018 to 2019 Audi SQ5 SUVs because a piece of trim may loosen. If this happens, the part may fall off the vehicle and become a road hazard to other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.
Audi did not immediately reply to Consumer Reports’ inquiries about this recall, including whether this is an extension of a prior recall from June 2019. That recall involved 126,161 Q5s for a similar problem (NHTSA campaign number 19V416).
The Details
Vehicles recalled: 174,278 Audi Q5s from 2018 to 2020 and SQ5s from 2018 to 2019.
The problem: A rear wheel arch trim piece may loosen and eventually detach from the SUV. If it falls off, it could become a hazard to other vehicles on the road.
The fix: Audi owners will be notified of the recall, and dealers will replace the four clips securing the forward part of the rear wheel arch, free of charge.
How to contact the manufacturer: Audi’s number for this recall is 66K8. Owners may call Audi customer service at 800-253-2834. The recall will begin Nov. 1, 2019.
NHTSA campaign number: 19V737.
Check to see whether your vehicle has an open recall: NHTSA’s website will tell you whether your vehicle has a recall that needs to be addressed.
If you plug your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA’s website and a recall doesn’t appear, it means your vehicle doesn’t currently have one. Because automakers issue recalls often, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking back regularly.
